Make the number = x.

If you multiply x by 8 then subtract 12, you get 52. 
Make it into an equation.

8x - 12 = 52

Now solve for x.

8x = 64

x = 8

Your answer is 8!
How I got the answer is by adding 52 + 12  which = 64. Then I divided my answer by 8. Which left me with the answer 8.
