Expanded form. We want to expand the number so that we can see all the separate places. While doing so, we add the values together. It should equal the same thing if you were to plug it into a calculator.
For example, the expanded form of 324 is: 300+20+4
5.24= 5+.20+ .004
It contains every separate place, and it is added together.
