Osmolality denotes the  number of dissolved particles in the blood. 
When blood osmolality increases, ADH is released by the posterior pituitary and acts on the kidney to increase water retention. ADH stands for AntiDiuretic Hormone.  ADH  works on the kidneys to reabsorb water into the blood stream.
