The geographic region of Russia that was especially suitable for nomadic invaders is the southern steppe because it is an open, treeless grassland. Thus, there was no geographical border that prevented the invaders from marching to Russia with their military force. The Ural mountains, on the other hand, gave much protection to Russia against invaders as it prevented access to the region.
