What is the value of x in the equation 3x – y = 18, when y = 27?

3x – y = 18
3x – 27 = 18
3x= 45
  x =15

3x-y=18, substitute y=27 then you get 3x-27=18., add 27 to each side to get x by itself, 3x=45, then divide by 3 and you get x=15
