A H+ ion in a solution due to an acid. The higher the conc. of H+ ions the more acidic. A hydrogen ion cannot exist in solution by itself so in an aqueous solution when an acid is dissociated into h+ ions, the ions bond with the h2o to form hydronium ions, h3o
