Answer: y = 7 x = 3

Step-by-step explanation: Solve equation 1 for the variable  x

    x = -2y + 17

Plug this in for variable  x  in equation

     8•(-2y+17) + 3y = 45

     - 13y = -91

Solve equation  for the variable  y

      13y = 91

     y = 7

By now we know this much

   x = -2y+17

   y = 7

Use the  y  value to solve for  x

   x = -2(7)+17 = 3
