The negative sign outside the absolute value function causes a few different things when multiplied. When a negative is multiplied outside of the function, the transformation that exists will be a vertical reflection. A horizontal shift to the left 1 unit will happen because of g(x)=f(x+1). The graph will make a vertical shift down 2 units because of g(x)=f(x)−2. The value of (a) would be -1 and since it is less than 1, and it causes the graph to be wider because of vertical compression. Placing a minus sign outside absolute value bars gives you a negative result.
