Only they called it “shell shocked”. Many veterans of “the war to end all wars”, suffered recurring nightmares, anxiety, depression, etc.
The other answers A thru C were mostly after WWII.
American WWI vets were supposed to get a pension. I would not call it a reward, rather compensation for the rigors they went through.
