x+y=17 (First equation)

x-y=3 (Second equation)

Solving Equation (i)

x+y=17

x=17-y(First equation)

Putting value of x in equation (ii)

x-y=3

x=3+y

17-y=3+y

17=3+y+y

17=3+2y

2y=17-3

y=14/2

y=7

Putting value of y in equation(i)

x=17-y

x=17-7

x=10
