Raju and Ann saved a total of $1560. After Raju gave Ann $50, Raju had 5 times as much money as Ann. How much did Raju have at first?

let amt of money Raju has be r and Ann be a.

a + r = 1560

a = 1560 - r --(1)

r - 50 = 5(a + 50)

r = 5a + 300 --(2)

sub (1) into (2):

r = 5(1560 - r) + 300

r = 8100 - 5r

6r = 8100

r = 1350

therefore he has $1350 at first.
