Haven't taken biology in a while but recessive gene or sex linked trait. It is both.
The colorblind trait is linked to the X chromosome, and can only be passed down with the x chromosome. That's what makes it sex linked. It's also recessive, meaning the mother could carry with a different dominant gene.
