Colleges use a few typical placement tests. Normally, the tests evaluate skills in different subjects, like, Writing, Reading and Math. Some colleges provide placement tests in areas of science and foreign languages. Other placement tests are provided on computers, and other colleges will give you your scores right after you finish. Individual colleges and some states have enhanced their own placement tests.
