Imagine that $1 = €1.40. Sam spends €50 and has €34 left. How many dollars did he start with?

You add the €50 and the €34 and get €84. Then you do 84 divided by 1.40 which gives you 60.So Sam started with $60 dollars.

I got $60 too because I added €50 + €34 = €84 and since $1=€1.40, $x=€84 so 84 divided with 1.40 and that’s $60.
