Given the side lengths of 8-12-16, this cannot be a right triangle, therefore you need to use Heron's formula to find the area.

A = [tex] \sqrt{s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)} [/tex], where s = (a + b + c)/2

s = (8 + 12 + 16)/2 = 36/2 = 18

A = [tex] \sqrt{18(18-8)(18-12)(18-16)} [/tex]

= [tex] \sqrt{18(10)(6)(2)} [/tex]

= [tex] \sqrt{2160} [/tex]

= 46.47
